Butresearchers did find that the caffeine in energy drinks played an important role. Caffeine masks the influence of alcohol and makes it more challenging to assessone’s own intoxication. Also, when mixed with energy drinks, it tends to serve as aprimer, which means users end up craving more and more drinks. Before they know it, theguys in the room are making their best Ben Affleck and Joe Namath impressions, and thegirls in the room are more open to their advances. The good news is thatcasual sexers showed a higher percentage of condom usage than steady couples. At leastthere’s one realm where alcohol isn’t skewing judgment.
